The Hottest Fuel Around

October 25th, 2007 by Daniel
This week there is something going on that comes about only once every two years. The Panasonic World Solar Challenge in Australia started October 21st and goes until October 28th. This challenge is an 1800 mile trek across Australia from Darwin to Adelaide using only vehicles powered exclusively by solar power. This is the 20th anniversary of the first challenge and the vehicles are improved each time. This is a tremendous event in terms of the difficulty, but more so in the pure drive and competitiveness it generates for the teams to create sustainable energy vehicles and increase the likelihood that we’ll be able to have vehicles such as these commercialized some day.
On a local note, the team from the University of Michigan has come in third place three times in this challenge and you can check out their website here as well as a video of this year’s vehicle here
